CPYFRMIMPF at V5R3

IBM made some changes in their V5R3 implementation of CPYFRMIMPF. It turns out that they are really starting to obey the CCSID set for the file, so if your system value is set to 65535 (binary/no translation) then you'll really get no translation. Read the below APAR for an explanation, and the PTF that's available to restore the V5R2 behaviour.

January VHF contest

Just sent in my score for the January VHF contest. Pitiful. It's easily the worst I've done in a long time, but the blizzard and lack of participants didn't help at all. Here's a summary

Outsourcing angst

It's amazing the level of vitriol that can be raised over an Indian firm spamming for work.

On the one hand, it's reasonably clear that US programmers are losing jobs to India. Not good for US programmers. But I don't recall the same level of stink when US consultants were taking their jobs in the 90s.
